Student Profiles
I have always wanted to know more about business. The George Washington University online Healthcare MBA Program gave me an opportunity to achieve this goal. I think the learning process is less structured than what I've experienced in the past. There is assigned reading, but much of what you learn depends on your own willingness to delve more deeply into various subjects. Professors provide creative projects, direction and guidance (and are readily available to answer questions), but most don't micromanage the student learning process. This type of learning facilitates a deeper understanding of various subjects, especially when compared to memorization alone.
There is no question that facts and formulae are part of the program. I've benefited at least as much from researching and evaluating corporate culture, cross-cultural differences, globalization, corporate social responsibility, ethics and other subjects that fall within the realm of social science. I became aware of many of my own shortcomings in interpersonal relationships. This has definitely made me a better manager.
My peers are very interesting people . I am certainly able to respect and value their experiences and opinions. Is the interaction better than face to face encounters? I think one develops relationships without preconceived notions or judgments and that is good.
